TAMPA — Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum released his 255 delegates to the Republican National Convention pursuant with state and party laws last night, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Santorum spoke to delegates on a conference call late Thursday, and plans to send out a formal letter announcing that he is freeing his pledged delegates to cast their ballots for Mitt Romney today. Santorum is scheduled to address the convention on Tuesday night.

Newt Gingrich freed his delegates earlier this week.
