“If it’s crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our school to protect our children, then call me crazy.”

introvert 4 months agoThis is supposed to be about behavior, not patching up end-results. When people finally focus on the behaviors (NOT NOT NOT purchasing decisions) that lead up to these catastrophes, then and only then will I be happy to come to a consensus. I will not be forced to choose between lobbyists and object control. There’s a better answer.

trollprincess 4 months agoAnyone who argues that it’s more important that more people at a shooting should have had guns rather than it is that the gunman had a gun in the first place is basically arguing that the first person to die is an acceptable loss, since the very first sign that a shooter is going to start killing people in these situations is, you know, *when he starts killing people.* Weirdly, they usually aren’t nice enough to walk into whatever location they’ve chosen to shoot up and yell, “Hey, everybody! Fair warning — I have a gun and anyone who wants to stop me might want to do it sooner rather than later!” So unless we’re going to start hiring security staff who are telepathic and can read the shooter’s mind before he even raises a gun, we’re still going to have mass murders with this incredibly insipid plan. (This is, of course, ignoring the fact that mass murderers have proven time and time again — at military bases, at schools with armed security, in states with a high rate of gun ownership — that they don’t care how many people at their chosen location may be carrying a weapon. They’ll adapt accordingly.)

Ali Wherewithall 4 months agoPutting armed men in k-schools is a recipe for disaster and utterly useless. The shooter is ALWAYS armed with the element of surprise and will always have a brief window where he is free to harm as many victims as he wants before ‘the good guys with guns’ show up.
Lapierre is not mentally well. The shooter will simply one-up this, he’ll use stun grenades, smoke bombs whatever. If the NRA is fine with a 50year old divorcé having high powered military automatic assault riffles in her house, then it would be cake for her to find other military weapons -
