When I was 10 or 11, it was movie night at my house and my parents wanted to watch some R-rated comedy. So I scoped out all the new movies at BlockBuster and found a little gem called “Pans Labyrinth” (I thought it was a sequel to David Bowies Labyrinth). I got home, popped it in my dvd player, brushed off the R rating as I thought it would just be for language. After all the main character is a little girl so it couldn’t be to bad right? Wrong. I only got up to the pale-eyeball guy, but the damage was done. My poor parents eventually learned what it really was by reading some list of, “The most traumatizing movies of all time”. I became obsessed with parental guides after that.
