There is nothing brave or original about the sexy Halloween costume. The whole holiday has been appropriated by high school and college-aged girls too inhibited to dress like a street walker the other 364 days of the year. Roxanne, you don’t have to turn on the red light — in fact, please don’t. You do it on Halloween because you expect the rest of us to look the other way and understand that being trashy doesn’t count because you’re just pretending. Fine, but what you pretend to be resonates with who you are, and if who you are is a ho year after year… that makes you a ho. Being a ho isn’t a victory for feminism, by the way. Just because a man can do it and think it’s wonderful does not make it so, it’s trashy and gross no matter what gender is involved. Have some self respect.
