5 times Rick Snyder blatantly lied to Michiganders (as told by Liar Liar)

When he ran in 2010, Gov. Snyder talked a lot about moving Michigan past the era of gridlock and into a post-partisan utopia, but that's all it was: talk. In the process, Snyder has let loose with a couple doozies. Here are the five most egregious examples of Snyder blatantly lying to Michiganders.

LIE 1: Snyder says he is not taxing pensions or retirements. "It's not a pension tax."

FACT: The Snyder Pension Tax is costing seniors with pensions up to $3,100 more each year.

LIE 2: Snyder says he didn't cut taxes for big corporations. "Big business did not get a tax cut."

FACT: Snyder cut corporate taxes by $1.8 billion.

LIE 3: Snyder says he didn't double his cousin's furniture contract with the state.

FACT: Snyder did double his cousin's furniture contract in 2012 from $19 million to 41 million. Earlier in his term, top Snyder officials also shielded the contract from cuts. Snyder's cousin also got a no-bid contract with MEDC.

LIE 4: Snyder didn't cut education by $1 billion. "I hope you're feeling good."

LIE 5: Snyder says he is for open, transparent and accountable government

FACT: Even as Republican Gov. Snyder was cutting school funding and raising taxes on retirees, he shielded his cousin’s furniture contract from cuts, then doubled it. Snyder gave 90 percent pay raises to his Wall Street investment executives - one of them is now making $333,000. And after scandals caused him to resign in disgrace, Snyder’s ex-treasurer was paid not to work, while on a Caribbean cruise.
