Common usage trumps everything in language; that's how it develops and evolves. The whole point of language is to express an idea, and I'm pretty sure that most English speakers are okay with calling a middle aged guy who likes to have sex with young teenagers a pedophile. All language is subjective, there are no standardized definitions of English as a whole. I'm pretty sure you're splitting semantic hairs here and missing the point entirely.
