My grandfather came from England and my Hungarian grandmother would make his favorite Christmas meal of leg of lamb with yorkshire pudding, garlic mashers, garlicky green beans, salad, tea with milk, banana cream pie and chocolate cream pie. The next day we would have her Christmas dinner, Hungarian Goulash with a meat sauce that has been cooking all day long topped with sour cream and more pie. The way my Nana would make her meat sauce would be to brown short ribs, then put them into a pot, then take jars of a spaghetti like sauce she had made prior and pour it over the ribs. She would let it simmer all day long until the meat fell off the bone and let it simmer some more. Then she would boil up some egg noodles and pour her meat sauce over the noodles and top with sour cream. OMG it’s amazing. It’s the best goulash I’ve had by far. Don’t just brown ground beef and top it with a jar sauce, really really put some love into it. WOW

Italy’s meal is wrong. Absolutely no pasta and no sauce, but “tortellini in brodo”. That’s because Catholics consider Christmas Eve, the 24th, as a lean dinner. Plates with fish, veggies and cheese are correct, but eel is served at the 25th meal or even better at the New Year’s Eve for it brings luck.

meat barbecue like, sopa paraguaya
(a kind of corn/wheat salted cake) and
several types of salads and we also
have “clerico”, that’s kinda a fruit
salad with cider. Am I forgetting
