Response to How “Smash” Became TV’s Biggest Train Wreck:
It was the only “must see” show on that network last season, including the fading 30 Rock. I think your premise that the show was laughably bad, is laughable. Yes, Ellis was trashtactic, and the Bollywood number was incongruous (but Hilty and McPhee never looked hotter) but the show was must-see for good reasons. McPhee is a revelation, very talented, and very sympathetic as a character. I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, as far as non-fleshed out characters such as hers. I feel like I got to know quite a bit about her and the director, (everyone should see his previous series, “Coupling” (BBC Vers. ) on Netflix..one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen) as well as Anjelica Huston’s character….. Good background info on the show, but a colossal mess, it was NOT… At least not on my TV screen.
