I don’t know the specifics of this case, so I won’t comment on it. I will, however, say that U.S. rape laws are very sexist and biased against males when alcohol is involved. If two people get drunk and have sex, why is it automatically the guy’s fault that it happened? I don’t think it’s fair to say that if a woman isn’t sober, she is a victim that was taken advantage of. The reality of the world is that people drink and make mistakes. Sometimes they’re drunk with someone else things turn sexual. Doesn’t necessarily mean such a person should be convicted of rape. That’s a life-ruining conviction for something I feel is very ambiguous depending on your perspective. Again, my comments are generally speaking, I do not know the specifics of this particular case.

It’s amazing how every single one of these passionate comments directed at me is making it sound as if I justified the details of this case, when the complexities of the legislation was clearly stated as the intended target.  I have had someone in my own family be the victim of sexual abuse, so I am not blind to the effects of these violent acts. What these boys did does not fall under the situations that I am describing. To the few that did take the time to give an intelligent rebuttal that wasn’t laced with insults and condescension, thank you for your feedback.

My comments were on rape laws, not the case. Fail to see how that makes me a dummy.

Yes, when both parties have had to much to drink consent becomes unclear. But the girl in this case wasn’t just a little drunk, she was unconcious, and they had sex with her then drove her from party to party, taking pictures of her and raping her. They refered to her as being dead, and they pissed on her. Read up on the case before making comments.

Seriously? A 16 year old girl was raped by two football players. There were pictures and videos of them doing horrible things to her. They are at fault for raping her and they were found guilty of it. How about before you make a comment about something, you do your fucking research?

You realize that they’re “sexist” because 9 out of 10 victims raped are FEMALE! This doesn’t mean the law is perfect, but is sure as hell doesn’t mean it’s sexist. And you’re also making it sound as if the boys are innocent because “Oh, everyone was drunk!” Doesn’t mean shit!! Everyone, regardless of sex, knows rape is bad and you shouldn’t do it. So yes, these boys are the blame because of it. She did not say yes. And even if she did, they KNEW she was drunk, which means her word of consent means nothing. She was raped. And I highly doubt that she didn’t just “claim rape” because she was drunk….Only 0.6% of rape victims were never raped (regardless of gender).

“I don’t know the specifics on this case but I’m going to take an incredibly uninformed, dogmatic stance on it anyway.” Please refrain from doing the following things in the future: voting, procreating, purchasing property, serving on a jury and giving a sworn testimony of any kind.

OMG, that is the reason why we have court systems. At the start, something like that is just a he-said, she-said scenario but people get lawyers and witnesses are interviewed and generally the truth comes out in court. The vast majority of women wouldn’t pursue a rape charge unless they honestly felt violated. If they’re too drunk to consent, just don’t start anything.

Yeah a false rape claim is a false rape claim. You and the rest of the idiots above would have done well to familiarize yourselves with the specifics of this case before commenting, because it makes you appear to be a victim blaming idiot.

“i don’t know the specifics of this case, so i won’t comment on it. except for here’s 4 paragraphs of me commenting on it, clearly demonstrating that i don’t know the specifics of this case.” dummy.
