Judi Dench, Dame

In Philomena, a Best Picture nominee, Dame Judi Dench plays real-life mother, Philomena Lee. We love Judi Dench. She is versatile and fabulous, and she was made a Dame by Her Majesty in 1988. And seriously, how much does this cat look like her?

Christian Bale

Who would've guessed that Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne accent was even human, let alone a Brit in disguise? Bale is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for American Hustle. He is also Welsh, which enables us to write the immortal words Bale hails from Wales.

*nine* nominations for 12 Years a Slave

One of the most powerful films of the last year, 12 Years a Slave, is up for a whopping 9 Oscar nominations. The film's British director is one Steve McQueen (although the above kitty seems confused as to which Steve McQueen). 12 Years a Slave has already taken home two coveted BAFTAs (the British Oscars, if you will): one for best film, and another for best actor for yet another Brit, Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Sally Hawkins

The lovely Sally Hawkins is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Blue Jasmine this year, her first Oscar nom. We feel that this kitty sums up pretty well her character in the film.

The British film, up for Best Picture this year, was produced by Brits Steve Coogan, Gabrielle Tana and Tracey Seaward. Coogan and Jeff Pope are also up for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film. (Above: a cat adapting a screenplay, possibly.)

Gravity

Gravity is up for a whopping ten nominations, including Best Picture (co-producer David Heyman is a Brit) and Achievement in Visual Effects, which in this case were created in studios in the UK. Despite a marked lack of twerking, this film (and this weepy cat) are both out of this world (geddit?!).

Aye, Cap'n

Captain Phillips, directed by Brit Paul Greengrass and partly shot in the UK, is up for an impressive 9 nominations. This cat is adorable, but piracy off the Horn of Africa is a serious concern.

The Voorman Problem

The all-British production The Voorman Problem is up for Best Live Action Short Film, and stars Martin Freeman (aka Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit) and Tom Hollander (who is very much In The Loop). The film focuses on a prison psychiatrist and a straight-jacketed prisoner named Voorman (who is not, in fact, a cat). See for yourself!
