5 Things To Keep In Mind As A First Year Student At TAMUCC

Ten ways a student who enters school for the first time in spring can succeed, or at least not fail miserably.

1. Stay away from spring.

Don't start school in spring, wait until the next fall semester if at all possible.. I have run the gauntlet twice and both times were miserable. Wait it out and research classes and professors. especially look carefully at your comp teachers since they will be the prime giver of work.

2. Parking

So you heard we just got a brand new parking garage and that the parking problem is solved? Wrong, unless you have 15 dollars to spend everyday the parking garage isn't an option also your going to have to pay like 75 dollars for a permit to park in the regular lot even though you already payed tuition. This however doesn't guarantee you a spot though, it would be smart to get to school early to start your daily hunt for a free space, or if you can schedule your classes for the afternoon and parking will be relatively easy to find.

3. CASA and your Seminar leaders really are there to help.

I hate asking for help but CASA really can make a difference for you. They won't do your work for you but they'll help you formulate your thesis and make good arguments to support it. They can also help with formatting to avoid accidental plagiarism.

4. Toilets for men.

The above picture may be an exaggeration of the state of TAMUCC's restrooms but one thing is for sure, every group has it's slobs and TAMUCC isn't exempt. Its not uncommon for people to piss all over the seats and leave toilet paper on the ground. If you are like me and require a more pristine place to make a push than there is only one solution. The Mens restroom at the end of the science building's hall, a lot of people don't notice it because it is not visible from the main lobby and it looks like there is only a Women's restroom at the end of the hall. I've only ever seen another human being inside that particular restroom once and the ceramic throne has never been desecrated.

5. Procastination.

So this list was going to be 10 points long. Now it is five, its also not very well done, which brings me to my last and most important point. Don't procrastinate, I know its a cliche to say it but its so true. You will probably go and buy some pens and pencils, and some sort of organizer for all your papers and you will think to your self "I'm going to be the best this year" but come your first assignment you'll put it off until the last moment thus starting the vicious cycle of procrastination.
