10 Reasons to Clean Up Texas This Saturday

This Saturday from 4-10, at the Discovery Green in Houston, the Sierra Club and TEJAS present a FREE outdoor art and music festival. Come for the fun, the music, the kids corner, and the clean up Texas movement! Check us out at www.cleanuptexasnow.org

    • 1. Because our flyer is AWESOME!

      Isn't it great?

    • 2. Because the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality...is an oxymoron.

TCEQ has failed to uphold the Clean Air Act for years - they have issued over 87,000 polluting air permits and only ever denied 15 since 1971. NOT okay.

    • 3. Because everything is bigger in Texas!

We do clean energy BIG. That means lots and lots of windmills- more wind energy output than any other state in the nation. Boo-yah.

    • 4. Because the music is going to be GOOD.

Check out the Ray Johnston band. Plus, Los Pistoleros de Texas, Mrs. Glass, and Robert Ellis and the Boys. We're gonna get down!

    • 5. Because we're going to have a kids' corner.

Expect lots of face paint. And tattoos. Just kidding, parents, they're fake. Mostly.

    • 6. Because we're fighting for environmental justice.

Low income communities and communities of color disproportionately suffer the effects of pollution. We say not now, not ever- and to speak on justice, we have none other than Senator Rodney Ellis as our keynote speaker.

    • 7. Because we don't support blowing up mountain tops in historic Appalachia.

Ouch. We don't want to be a part of this.

    • 8. Because we all deserve to breathe clean air.

      Mmmmmm....inhale, exhale...

    • 9. Because in this case, we don't want to be #1

That looks nasty. Los Angeles and Houston are number 1 and 2 for air pollution, respectively. Celebrities live there? Seriously? Gross.

    • 10. Because of this guy.

Coal plants mean high CO2 emissions which means climate change...we're real sorry dude. We're going to make it up to you. Let's clean up Texas!
