AceKing 8 months agoThe money concept is a bit loose, because if we can’t even have a common trading unit, interaction between people would be almost unnecessary today.
But the other point made, I mainly agree with, that life shouldn’t be a drag of work. If there was something to rebut in this, is that a life of work to live to work isn’t COMPLETELY stupid. For example, vacations can make up for months of work. -

Alan Watts on Buzzfeed?!?! Every other effing article is on which presidential candidate is going to save you more money, get you better jobs, more pay, fewer taxes. If you would put stock in the wisdom of Mr. Watts then you wouldn’t even bother to talk about which candidate will purchase office. I try to live my life for joy and not money, but it is still very difficult. Often the problem with philosophy is that it is so much easier to talk about than to practice. But the truth is that if more people had the courage to do this, the less need we’d even have for money, because instead of competing with each other we’d start cooperating, and our needs would be closer to actual needs, and not wanton desires disguised as ‘needs’. The point is: yeah we need wage slaves, and we need money in order to have things like cars, cell phones, internet, jet skis, convenience stores, junk food, etc. but we don’t need any of these things to live fulfilling lives.

SkepDoc 8 months agoDon’t get me wrong, I love this. I really do. But what I desire is to lay around all day smoking weed and screwing hot chicks, punctuated by hikes in the mountains, scuba diving in the Caribbean, music festivals, etc.
I like the work I do a lot. It’s fulfilling but it’s hard as hell, and hard work is hard work no matter how much you care about it. A society full of hedonists will not work. Someone has to keep the lights on, so to speak. So find something you enjoy doing, or can a least tolerate, that affords you the opportunity to pursue your other interests. Maybe Watts would agree with me somewhat, I don’t know. What I do know is that there are gonna be a lot of liberal arts majors going hungry in the next few decades. -
