Remember the time when myspace was “awsome” then facebook came out and myspace was labeled “bad” or the “devil”. Now twitter came twittering along and now everybody is saying how myspace and facebook is “so stupid”. Now twitter announces a television show people reactions are through the roof as if its the next best thing. But if myspace or facebook announced this it would be the end of the world. But twitter is ok?

Not technically, but they've 'removed some barriers that otherwise would complicate the production of the show' (If I recall the quote somewhat correctly that I saw attributed to a twitter PR person). In other words, they've received compensation in order for the TV show to be made, in return they've allowed certain permissions otherwise considered infringement or close to.
