Debbie Reynolds had very little dancing experience when she was cast in the movie, so she had to be taught complicated dance steps and keep up with one of the most athletic dancers of the day, in a very short time. Remember that this was still during the studio system days, so they had to do as the office told them to do.
Gene Kelly wanted to deliver an amazing film. Debbie Reynolds found fame, her tears are dried, her blisters are healed and because of Gene Kelly’s drive, they created a film that we still talk about 50 years later.
