Middle Schooler Blasts Hello Kitty Into Space

Lauren Rojas, a 12-year-old from Antioch, California, lofted her prized Hello Kitty doll 17 miles above the Earth’s surface using a weather balloon. She documented the flight with GoPro cameras, along with a battery of sensors to measure temperature, elevation, and pressure. The balloon popped at 93,625 feet, leaving the plush animal to parachute back to Earth, landing in a tree roughly 48 miles from the launch point.

HarryShuldman 4 months agoEvery time I see one of these I’m always amazed how relatively close they land to where they were launched. You’d think once it floats high enough to see the whole of the continent it could just float hundreds of miles away but no, a mere 48. amazing.
