    Abandoned Military Airfield On Tiny Pacific Island

    Located on Johnston Island in the mid Pacific Ocean, this abandoned military base is arguably the most isolated in the world.

    Operated as a U.S. Navy base and nuclear test site over the years, only the 9,000 ft runway remains today. An odd sight in the middle of the ocean, Johnston Atoll has allegedly been used as a test site for classified aircraft, although such claims remain unsubstantiated. The territory is now a wildlife refuge.
