Not only is edwardw5’s comment as trashy as a blow-up pool on top of a dilapidated mobile home, but it is inaccurate. Black people were subjugated and oppressed by white people, not God. The IMF, World Bank, colonists, slaveholders, slave-drivers, past American presidents, etc., are all white-led instititutions or white people. Stories from the Bible inspired abolitionists like John Brown, insurrectionists like Nat Turner, runaways like Harriet Tubman, and reformers like Martin Luther King, Jr. And for that reason, God is okay with me. As for these comments, it’s just Twitter. It’s a fairly intellectually-undemanding site with rather uncultured philistines.

God gave those white people something to defend themselves with, namely the bible. At least from their perspective. I agree it wasn’t God because I don’t believe he exists, but doesn’t change the fact that they used God to back their right to own slaves.
