Geez, never would have thought. It sounded like the world's largest air conditioner. I'm actually surprised because that humming never stopped.

Dang!
And I paid good money to the refrigerator repairman to come over and fix it.
He turned down the TV and charged me $200

I'm torn on the vuvuzela. When it's just a few people playing them it doesnt sound all that bad. When tens of thousands do it can be quite annoying. One of the things I enjoy about a good football/soccer match is the ebb and flow of crowds, the chants, the songs, the screams of ooooh when a goal is barely missed. With the vuvuzela much of that is lost. I did catch a few chants of USA and I think i might have heard the Brits singing God Save the Queen but I couldn't really tell over the constant drone of what sounds like angry bees or mosquitos. Some people have accused others of racism when they complain about the vuvuzela. While some have hurled racial slurs alongside their criticism of the instrument, I don't think most people are being racist. A small number of racists relish the chance to attach their views to a normal difference of opinion and try to turn it into a race issue. As a side note about racism it isn't just Africans using the vuvuzela. People from all over the world are using them while watching the game at the stadium. That's a fact that those using racial slurs are happy to leave out. Back to the real issue, I wish the vuvuzela would have been banned. I'm really not enjoying this worldcup as much as I have in past due to the constant buzz. I won't pretend that this is an easy call though. South Africans like the vuvuzela and have used it as part of their games for some time now. In the end I think that being hosts to the world football/soccer tournament that only comes along every 4 years means that they should not go full tilt on this particular tradition. People will see plenty of other South African traditions and this particular one is spreading quite a bit of annoyance. This is the worlds game and while I love to see how different cultures celebrate and live, being host to the world means you should do your best to make them welcome imho.
