11 Times "The Wire" Made You Want To Die

"The Wire" was probably the greatest show ever written, particularly for its brutally realistic portrayal of Baltimore and its citizens. Sometimes, however, it got a little too real for us. SPOILERS, obviously.

1. Wallace

We all thought Wallace was finally going to escape the life and help put away some bad people. We were wrong.

2. The End of Season 2

The criminals get away clean, the docks close down and the stevedore union is disbanded, the entire investigation is a failure and Nick and his family are forced into witness protection. Absolutely nothing good came from Season 2. Except, of course, another stellar season of "The Wire."

3. Major Crimes' Disbandment

Because of Carcetti's funding cuts, Major Crimes is disbanded at the beginning of Season 5, putting an end to the Stanfield gang investigation and placing McNulty and others back at their homicide desks.

4. Prez Kills a Fellow Officer

It seemed as though Roland Pryzbylewski's fucking up days were behind him, until an unfortunate late night encounter that involves him accidentally shooting another cop.

5. Bunny Colvin's Demotion.

Colvin's "Hamsterdam" experiment decreased crime rates in the city but in the end attracted too much negative media attention. Seeing his project destroyed wasn't enough punishment though, as he was forced into early retirement by his superiors, but not before being demoted from major to lieutenant effectively lowering his pension. On top of that, his actions cost him his post-retirement job he had waiting for him. The best people suffered the worst on this show.

6. Randy

The most decent and likable of the kids introduced in Season 4, Randy ends the season outed as a snitch, resulting in thugs burning down his foster home and hospitalizing his foster mother. He is put into a group home where his reputation earns him beatings by his bunkmates.

7. Dukie

Everyone more or less ended the series on as high a note as "The Wire" could offer. All except Dukie, who we last see shooting up in a heroin den. Why Dukie? Why "Wire?" Just...why?

8. Bodie's Last Stand

Bodie had finally had it with the Stanfield organization and how they treated their members. He decides to become an informant but is unfortunately found out before he can spill anything. His death officially marked the end of the old Barksdale gang.

9. Michael Saying Goodbye to Bug

With Michael fleeing for his life, he can't take his brother Bug with him and drops him off at their aunt's house. Nothing I can say can make this scene any sadder.

10. This Scene

Jesus Christ this show!

11. The Ending

Because it was over and nothing would ever replace it.
