We’re not quite lying to ourselves it’s just that the math is easier. Much easier. So we just use the ‘pretty good’ approximation instead. FYI the speed of light is not 300,000,000 m/s there you go again, lying to yourself because the math is easier.
The speed of light in vacuum is 299,792,458 m/s learn it. use it.
