DO NOT EDIT. FOR A CLASS. The Life and Times of an ABC Executive

Who knew Prime Time would take a lot of time?

1. When James asked who wanted to be a network…

2. And I decided to volunteer…

3. When I met the rest of ABC…

4. And we started the game…

CBS was going down!

6. Seconds later as we tried to sell our first advertising slots…

7. When an advertiser offered us $100,000 for Modern Family…

8. And we thought that was a great deal…

9. Only to find that CBS got 15 million for Big Bang Theory…

11. Season 1 Week 1. We met the producers.

12. And everyone pitched us their shows…

13. Sure, most of the pitches went like this…

14. To which we responded…

15. We were pretty selective those first three weeks…

17. This may have gone a little to our heads…

18. How producers responded when we didn’t want to buy their idea…

19. Or when we offered them too little fake money…

20. When someone tried to pitch us a show when we had already filled up the TV guide for the week…

21. When people didn’t turn in their shows…

22. And we would confront them…

23. And they would always say…

24. To which our reaction was…

25. When a producer asked us if we would be renewing their badly-rated show…

26. Or better yet, ask for a ton more money…

27. But when a miracle happened and we filled up all our time slots, sold all our advertising, and had a little bit of a profit…

29. Then Season 2 started…

30. Our reaction to the new networks…

31. Suddenly no one was pitching us shows…

32. Seriously…

33. We were a little bit desperate…

34. Puppy dog eyes alone couldn’t save us…

35. We tried to find producers with shows to sell…

36. We had to be a little less selective…

37. “ABC still needs shows. Please come pitch us shows!”

38. Any show that was pitched to us…

39. When a miracle happened and we managed to sell advertising and fill the TV guide…

40. Of course, this was dependent on if the producers turned in their shows…

41. Which became less and less likely as the producers adopted this attitude…

42. To which our response was…

44. To sum up Season 2…

45. Then Season 3 came along…

46. We said good bye to ABC…

47. And I spent the next season as CW writing the narrative shows I wished producers would have pitched us…

48. There were no more advertisers…

49. No more producers…

50. No more lawsuits against NBC…

51. And life was just a little more peaceful…

53. Thank you Molly, James, and Katrina for an awesome class!
