I don’t know. I kind of like both. Schneemann was reveling in the 75’s “fear of the woman” with that second wave feminism culminating around then. She was covered in mud and read negative reviews on the scroll (creator & naked criticism) whereas Jenkins here is just creating her own blank “scroll”. Fibers have been a weirdly feminine medium for centuries, too, weirdly enough. This modern “fear of the vulva” is kinda real and really strange, since we’re suppose to be in a really progressive generation. But here we are, still confused by things that come of it beyond babies and of course, politicians still have a say on some vaginal discourse. The average person probably hears the word vulva twice in a year, whereas penis maybe once a week? I agree, it’s not totally groundbreaking, but it is interesting!
