Ukraine And Pro-Russian Rebels Agree To A Cease-Fire

The Ukrainian government and pro-Russian rebels signed the cease-fire deal during talks in Belarus. It will begin Friday at 11 a.m. ET.

Update — Sept. 5, 9:53 a.m. ET: Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko confirmed the cease-fire deal with Russian-backed rebels to end the violence in eastern Ukraine.

Poroshenko tweeted that he had ordered his military commanders to stop shooting from 6 p.m. local time, Reuters reported.

Heidi Tagliavini of the Organization For Security and Cooperation (OSCE) said the cease-fire would begin at 11 a.m. ET.

The Ukrainian government and pro-Russian rebels signed a cease-fire in Belarus effective Friday, Russian media reported.
