Israeli Airstrikes On The Gaza Strip Kill 3-Year-Old Palestinian Girl

The Palestinian girl was killed, and as many as six were injured, in a series of Israeli airstrikes which came after a Palestinian sniper reportedly killed an Israeli civilian. WARNING: Graphic images.

A 3-year-old Palestinian girl was killed by shrapnel during an Israeli air strike on the Al Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza strip on Tuesday, Dec. 24, according to Gaza hospital officials. She was identified as Hala Abu Sabhika.

At least six others were wounded in the Israeli strikes which came hours after a Palestinian sniper reportedly killed an Israeli civilian who was repairing the border security fence which separates Gaza from Israel.

The Israeli civilian was the first Israeli killed on the Gaza frontier in more than a year, Reuters reported.

The Israeli military said in a statement that the sites targeted included "a weapon manufacturing facility" and "terror infrastructure in the central Gaza strip" among others. Hamas condemned the girl's death as "a criminal and cowardly act."

Hala, the 3-year-old girl, was standing with her family members outside their home near the al-Bureij training camp when it was hit by shells from the Israeli air strikes. Hala's mother and two brothers were also injured in the attack.
