Food Network Star Sandra Lee To Undergo Surgery After Double Mastectomy Complications

“I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey.”

Sandra Lee star of The Food Network's Semi-Homemade Meals announced on Facebook Monday evening that she would be undergoing an operation Tuesday after being hospitalized for an "infection" last week.

Lee, who is the longtime girlfriend of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March, and underwent a double mastectomy in May.

Her road to recovery has not been smooth. Lee has been very vocal and open about her experience with breast cancer, regularly updating her health status to her more than 460,000 Facebook followers.

On Aug. 7, representatives of Sandra Lee, Inc. posted on her behalf that the Food Network star had been at the hospital "for the past few days fighting off an infection."

They added that while Lee would be allowed to return home over the weekend, that the first priority was to "get the infection identified and under control."

An avid tennis fan, Lee said on Monday in her status update that she compared her fight against cancer to a tennis match.

"Right now the ball is in my court and it's time for a mean backhand- and I am taking that shot (And just so you know I DO, in fact, have one mean backhand on the tennis court! It's actually stronger than my forehand - solid, swift and accurate)," she said.

"So my plan for tomorrow is game, set, match!"
