October 22 is the day to celebrate the power of ALL UPPERCASE LETTERS.
Tech Buzz Saturday, May 3 is international Shutdown Day. The idea is simple, if slightly insane: Turn off your computer and leave it off for 24 hours. You’ll be able to do other things, like take a walk in the park, talk to people face to face or go see a show — you know, things that don’t involve the internet. Sounds scary.
Science Buzz It’s March 14, time to celebrate everybody’s favorite irrational mathematical constant. If today is Pi Day, does that make 1:59 Pi Minute? Yes, it does. It’s the 20th anniversary of Pi Day today (any connection with other anniversaries?) and math nerds couldn’t be happier.
Food Buzz Not only is Feb. 5 Super Fat Tuesday, it’s also Pancake Day. The date is so overdetermined that IHOP has broken tradition and declared next Tuesday to be National Pancake Day. Purists are sticking to the usual date since it’s intended to be a part of the beginning of Lent. As news reports on the controversy note, “There is no word on whether IHOP has asked the Vatican to shift the timing of Lent.”
