  • .tel

Tech Buzz The new hotness in domains is .tel — your simple, lightweight contact info domain. It's like a profile page, only more expensive. The .tel addresses were only opened up to businesses and corporations today, but will be available to individuals soon. Contact info will be encrypted in the domain, letting you use it as an online calling card for whoever you'd like to be able to find you.

  • Google Video Chat

Tech Buzz Another step towards video chat ubiquity? Sadly, it may one day be impossible for slobs like me to hide behind the comfortable veneer of cellphones, email and IM, and our pathetic grooming habits will be on display for all to see.

They even called out the bacon obsession we’ve documented so meticulously. “In order to increase renown, add ‘bacon’ to most any noun.”

Culture Buzz The AP wants bloggers to pay licensing fees to quote from their stories. Unfortunately, a nifty clause in the United States Code provides for something called “fair use,” allowing for the use of copyrighted material without the copyright holder’s permission in certain cases, like for educational purposes or commentary/criticism. Watch out, AP, you’ve gone and got the whole internet mad at you!

  • ROFLcon

Tech Buzz The first official convention celebrating Internet memes will take place at Harvard University, where hundreds of web nerds will actually hear each other LOL. Buzzfeed won’t be in attendance, but we can only hope there’s a party DJ on hand to awkwardly beckon Tron Guy to the dance floor.
