On Sunday's Face the Nation , Herman Cain defended his wacky campaign ad that has his chief of staff Mark Block smoking a cig. “Let Mark be Mark,” Cain said. “Let people be people.” That's when host Bob Schieffer nailed him for running an irresponsible ad, and the GOP candidate started singing a different tune.

   Gotta start with the classic. According to one recent study, men who drink and smoke regularly live, on average, 10-15 years less than those who partake in neither. But then again, I'm sure your mom already told you that. (source)

   According to several studies, people with "adverse childhood experiences" live an average of 20 years less than those who had a more comfortable childhood. (source)

3. 3. Sitting Too Much

   

   A 14 year study showed that sitting too much (even after working out) increases the death-rate of men and women by 30%. The reason for this is not only because you are less active but also because sitting slows circulation and suppresses the immune system. (source)

4. 4. Diabetes

   

   Researchers reported recently that people with diabetes are 25% more likely to get cancer and more than 50% more likely to get heart disease than people without diabetes. On average, those with diabetes die 6 years earlier than those without. (source)

5. 5. Pollution

   

   A study done by the Environmental Audit Committee in the UK reported that in the worst cases, people could die up to 10 years early as a result of pollution and the complications it brings. (source)

6. 6. Not Finishing Highschool

   

   According to census data, people with less than 12 years of education can expect to live 7 years less than those with more than 12 years of schooling. (source)

   A study conducted over the course of 50 years showed that simply being overweight (not even obese) at age 40 could take up to 3 years off your life. (source)

8. 8. Too Much TV

   

   A six year study showed that adults who watch more than 2 hours of TV a day are "80 percent more likely to die from heart disease and 46 percent more likely to die from any cause." But how else can I watch Teen Mom marathons? (source)

9. 9. Red Meat

   

   People who consume a large amount of red or processed meat are 50% more likely to get heart disease than those who don't touch the stuff. (source)

10. 10. Not Getting Enough Sleep

    

    According to UK and Italian researchers, men and women who regularly get less than 8 hours of sleep die an average of 3 years earlier than those who sleep 8 hours each night. (source)
