Amateur video of the immediate aftermath of the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, shot from Berlin, Pennsylvania on September 11th, 2001. This footage was recorded by the late Dave Berkebile, whose family only now released it to the public. Berkebile's commentary is understated and eerie: “It shook the heck out of the house. I don't know what else is happening. They rammed one into the Pentagon and into the World Trade Center and we're watching it on TV and this one happened.”
Celebrity Buzz People Magazine has just come out with a story claiming that Gwyneth Paltrow saved a woman's life on 9/11. That's not exactly what happened.
For just $50 you can class up your home or office with this 9/11 commemorative painting straight out of an imaginary alternate reality. I'll let the seller explain: “In an alternate universe after 9/11 (our nation's tragedy) McDonald's builds a giant GOLDEN ARCHES memorial to replace the fallen World Trade Towers. THEN, they go ahead and sell paintings of said memorial. This is that painting, and when you buy it you are living in that alternative universe. Go ahead, quit your job. It's the end of the world as you know it and you feel like eating a Whopper. Burger King is pretty good!”
Humo Magazine's shamefully offensive ad reminds us that the most tragic event in our nation's recent history is but weeks away! Most nauseating ad for a magazine ever? Mission accomplished.
This year's winner in the Food Network's Most Offensive Cake contest. Kidding. But it wouldn't win anyway because it's so poorly made. Which makes a perfect kind of sense.
Culture Buzz Commenters on 4Chan, eBaum's world and other sites rile up the internet by getting a crude visual reminder of 9/11 to the top of the Google Trends page. So okay, this only affects the infinitesimally small number of people that know/care what Google Trends is — but you may be one of them! But you probably also won't be offended.
Who is the “falling man” in this historic picture from 9-11? And should we try to answer this question or avert our eyes? Click the image for a classic Esquire piece republished on the web for the anniversary of 9-11. When should we “bear witness” and when should we respect the privacy of victims? Very interesting read.
