CULTURE BUZZ: R.E.M front man Michael Stipe is having an art show at the Manhattan Rogan boutique. Stipe created an elaborate window installation involving hundreds of cardboard alarm-clock boxes spilling into the street. The art show also includes “Relics” a series of bronze sculptures of cassette tapes, Polaroid cameras and other technological objects that have recently become obsolete.

SCIENCE BUZZ: Biologist, Jason Bond discovered a new species of trapdoor spider which he has named Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi in honor of his favorite musician. Young joins the ranks of the late rock ‘n’ roll legend Roy Orbison who has a whirligig beetle Orectochilus orbisonorum named to honor him. I’m not sure if this makes spiders lovable or even creepier.
