Comedian Richard Belzer has played Detective John Munch for 20 years on a total of 453 episodes across 10 different TV shows. Before he says goodbye on tonight’s Law & Order: SVU, let’s remember the good times and real talk he’s brought into our lives.
You blink and suddenly you’ve spent your entire day watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. What is this sorcery?!
The characters from nearly all of your favorite TV shows, from The Simpsons to Lost to Seinfeld, can be traced back to Detective Munch of Law & Order: SVU. He knows everyone.
It’s so brilliant, we wish we’d thought of it first.
It’s times like these I wish Greg Kelly was still at his old post on our local Fox morning news. Poor new guy.
This is so good. Belzer recently interviewed Gilbert at the New York Friar’s Club, where they discussed the latter’s “too soon” brand of humor — in particular his 9/11 joke at the Hugh Hefner roast (held three weeks after the terrorist attacks) and those despised Japanese tsunami tweets in 2011. Yes, this is worth 19 minutes of your time.
Umm, and apparently it made him funnier? Or just grosser. You decide.
