CELEBRITY BUZZ: Helen Mirren has caused an upset with her several controversial statements about date rape. Though applauded for the candor with which she revealed that she was date raped several times as a young woman the 63 year-old actress is being criticized for suggesting that women should not press charges in date rape situations. Although Mirren believes a woman has the right to say no at the last minute she says “I don’t think she can have a man into court under those circumstances.”

CULTURE BUZZ: These kits help women collect evidence anonymously after a rape, but were always prohibitively expensive. Starting in 2009, all states will be required to pay for anonymous rape kits, even if the woman isn’t planning on pressing charges. Well, there’s not much good news to give rape victims, but at least now, prosecuting rape cases will get a lot easier starting in 2009. It’s nice to see our country progressing in some form.
