POLITICS BUZZ: Arkansas Democratic Party Chair Bill Gwatney was shot and killed at his office in Little Rock. Gwatney, a good friend of the Clintons and a major figure in Arkansas, was murdered by Timothy Dale Johnson, a man who’d been fired from his job at Target just yesterday morning. Police shot and killed Johnson after a 30 mile chase, though the question of why he did it remains unanswered.

STYLE BUZZ: Twenty-year-old model Ruslana Korshunova fell to her death from her downtown New York apartment building yesterday in an apparent suicide. Known as “The Russian Rapunzel” Korshunova — originally of Almaty, Kazakhstan — had been featured in ads for Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Vera Wang and Christian Dior. Her tragic death seems to have come as an absolute surprise to friends and family, who claimed she seemed to be “on top of the world,” though some reports suggest that she had shown her distress in posts on a social networking site.

STYLE BUZZ: Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent died today in Paris at age 71. The designer who retired in 2002 had been suffering from a long illness. The man who popularized the beatnik look, tight pants, thigh high boots, and the tuxedo suit for women once said: “You have to regard every fashion with humor, to be above it, believe in it enough to give the impression of living it but not too much, so that you keep your freedom.”
