Obsessive New Tumblr Immortalizes Our Favorite Romney Son

Anyone who knows me, knows I love the Romney sons . And anyone who knows I love the Romney sons, knows I love Craig Romney most of all. So imagine my frustration when BuzzFeed's Whitney Jefferson IM'd me about a new Tumblr that immortalized the youngest Romney (and asking if I was behind it). I couldn't have been happier it existed and sadder that I had nothing to do with it. I give you, “F*** Yeah! Craig Romney.”

What Has Ron Paul Been Doing Today?

While Mitt and Newt duked it out in Florida, Paul was off on a typically atypical schedule.

Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) speaks to supporters at an event in Freeport, Maine January 28, 2012.

(Reuters / JOEL PAGE)

While Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich made their final push in Florida and Rick Santorum focused on connecting with the Tea Party in Nevada, Ron Paul has been doing things his way: casually campaigning in Colorado, preparing for his 55th wedding anniversary tomorrow, and calling on the Gingrich campaign to apologize to one of his fans.

Pau, who spent two days this the week in Maine, began the day with a 10 a.m. town hall meeting in Fort Collins, another town hall in Denver, and a 2 p.m. whistle stop in Colorado Springs. He then flew to Nevada and had a "Nevada Campaign Call to Arms" in Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas.

His campaign also took the time to demand an apology from the Gingrich campaign for its staff's treatment of a Paul supporter at an event in Florida. "They say the culture of an organization is a reflection of its top executive and today’s deplorable behavior against Ron Paul supporter Eddie Dillard in Florida reflects very poorly on Congressman Gingrich," the campaign wrote. Dillard's foot was stepped on rather aggressively.

Tomorrow is Paul's 55th wedding anniversary with his wife Carol. They'll spend it campaigning until 3 p.m., after which there are no events on the schedule. For a candidate who's in it until the convention whether he wins or loses, there's no rush.

This was brilliant. Stephen Colbert surprised Jon Stewart at the end of tonight's “Daily Show” to demand back the Super PAC he gave Stewart control over while mulling a fake presidential bid. Stewart's refusal to honor Colbert's request led to an epic foot chase, culminating in… you know what? Just watch.

“A moon base? Your solution to being accused of grandiosity is 'Give me eight years and I'll have a fucking moon base.'” Just hours after enduring a debate night beating from Mitt Romney over his idea for a permanent colony on the moon, Newt Gingrich received a similar smackdown from Jon Stewart on Thursday night's “Daily Show.”

Anti-Abortion Activists Knock Romney At South Carolina Event

The movement would define abortion as murder. Romney's absence “reveals his lack of commitment to the life issue,” says an activist.

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The movement to legally classify a fertilized egg a "person" -- and to make abortion, legally, murder -- suffered a deep setback last year when voters in conservative Mississippi rejected it as a step too far.

But the attendance of four Republican presidential candidates last night at the Personhood USA forum in a hotel auditorium here signaled the vitality of the most ambitious wing of the anti-abortion movement, as well as the discomfort pro-life activists feel for the party's likely nominee, Mitt Romney.

Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich all appeared in person for 20 minutes each; Ron Paul appeared on a screen, calling in from D.C. where he was voting on the latest debt ceiling increase.

The candidates answered soft questions on their abortion records from Personhood USA higher-ups and from pro-life activist Lila Rose, to frequent and loud applause from an audience that says its movement is "burgeoning."

Keith Mason, the president of Personhood USA, told BuzzFeed that the event last night was "historic. It's never happened before that a town hall meeting was so well-attended and that a town hall meeting focused specifically on life."

Mason downplayed the loss in Mississippi. "This is a movement," he said. "One skirmish, win or lose, is not going to make a difference in the whole battle. Mississippi was overall a success because we were able to raise awareness and we were able to raise a standard."

Nancy Stith, the executive director of Georgia Right to Life, said that the abortion issue comes even before the economy for voters like her. "Other things are important -- taxes, jobs -- but if you don't have the right to life, then all those other things aren't important to me. So they have to be right on that issue, and then I look at the other issues," she said.

One candidate who is not right on this issue, in the minds of personhood advocates: Mitt Romney, who has been roundly criticized by conservatives for his moderate stances on abortion as governor of Massachusetts. Later, Mason told BuzzFeed that Romney's absence "leaves question marks in a lot of folks' minds."

"It's pretty telling," said Stith.

"I think it reveals his lack of commitment to the life issue from his heart," said Karen Labarr, a board member of Georgia Right to Life.

Despite a perceived lack of support from the candidate most likely to run in the general election and a major loss in Mississippi, personhood advocates have high -- if vague -- hopes for the future of the movement.

Of personhood legislation, Stith said that "more and more states are considering it. It's gaining momentum."

"Our focus is grassroots citizens initiatives," said Mason. "We're building a movement. I think the candidates understand it and the polls show it -- that we might not have a majority in America that believes in personhood, but we're quickly moving in that direction."

Stephen Colbert Responds To "BuzzFeed Buzzkill" Ben Smith's Questions About Jon Stewart Coordination

“Get your names right, Bill!” Stephen Colbert opened tonight's “Colbert Report” with a segment about the easy to get around “non-coordination” rules applying to Super PACs. Specifically, Colbert hit back at BuzzFeed — and editor-in-chief Ben Smith — for questioning the legality of his coordination with Jon Stewart, who took over the Super PAC Colbert created once he announced his possible run for “President of the United States of South Carolina.” Me-ow!

The segment also served as a nice complement to one that aired on "The Daily Show" tonight and also featured Colbert, in-studio with Stewart, "not coordinating." Click here to watch it.

Jon Stewart And Stephen Colbert's Brilliant Mockery Of Super PAC "Non-Coordination" Rules

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are making a complete mockery of U.S. election law by stretching the limits of what can be considered “non-coordination” between presidential candidates and the Super PACs that back them. They're also making history.

Here's the brilliant segment from tonight's "Daily Show" that everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

Newsweek Trolls The Entire Republican Party

The trololol is strong in this one. In what I can only assume is a deliberate attempt to anger the entire GOP, Newsweek's just-released cover for its upcoming issue teases an Andrew Sullivan piece by asking why President Obama's critics are “so dumb.” Will Republicans take the bait? Only (a very short amount of) time will tell! Also: Yes. (via SoupSoup )
