Culture Buzz The U.S. Navy SEALs unit responsible for killing Osama bin Laden rescued an American aid worker and her Danish colleague in a heroic helicopter raid, officials announced early Wednesday morning. The hostages, who were working for the Danish Refugee Council, had been kidnapped by Somalian pirates back in October. An unconfirmed number of Somalian gunmen were killed during the shootout, and both hostages are currently unharmed and in a safe location.

An unruly fan gets tasered and beaten at a recent Pittsburgh Pirates game as the crowd chants patriotically. Were they rooting for the unruly fan? The stadium security? The aversion of a government shutdown thanks to American statesmanship? Regardless, they probably weren't rooting for the Pirates.
This is the official poster for the fourth installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, On Stranger Tides. Looks like it may be about pirates.

This guy meticulously documented his investment against Pittsburgh baseball. The Pirates prove worse than even Vegas oddsmakers imagined possible - he made a 10 percent ROI betting $20 bucks against them every time.

From the “Things that probably took a really long time to make” category, comes a fully automated, motorized lego theater, featuring a play about pirates. The plot of the play could use a little work, but it has a shark in it, so I'm not complaining.
Internet pirates, that is! The French parliament is voting on some law about cutting off internet access for people who download stuff on peer-to-peer networks, and this picture is about that. Sounds bad! But more importantly, stormtroopers have FINALLY met pirates in what is sure to be a battle for the ages.

You can apparently thank the Barbary Wars for this update. I remain shocked that none of the Roosevelts (that includes Eleanor) are registering on these graphs.

Thousands of dolphins appeared and blocked Somali pirate ships as they attempted to intercept a Chinese merchant vessel. Could the Navy finally be using our poison dart super dolphins that “disappeared” during Hurricane Katrina?
Just for comparison's sake. It feels a little wrong to file this under “badass,” and yet I'm still not to a point where I can take this pirate thing seriously.
Just in case you're not clear on the pecking order, here's a handy chart that's been doing the rounds today. It's like paper rock scissors, except with more senseless violence. (Via).
Tech Buzz Just in time for Holiday shopping season, Amazon.com is reportedly getting hit by pirates using a Firefox addon that links away from the Amazon product and directs the user to a free illegal download of the same product. For the time being, the extension appears to have been shut down, but keep an eye out for more from these mischievous Holiday Geek Pirates.
Culture Buzz Mayday, mayday. 130,000 inflatable breasts en route to Australia have been lost at sea. They're worth $200,000, so please - if you see any boobies wash ashore, please alert your local authorities. Perhaps blue-balled pirates stole them and are using them as flotation devices?

A WSJ oped adopts the “punishment fits the crime” school of thought. That or he thinks we're living in a Saddam Hussein-era Iraq. Expect a “Walk the Plank!” charticle in the NYT tomorrow.
