CULTURE BUZZ:
Does your pup seem upset or in a general malaise? Rover could very well be suffering from clinical depression.

Today, I read an article that appeared in yesterday’s Telegraph. It contained this disturbing news: More and more suicidal pets are being prescribed anti-depressants.

This news comes only less than a week after a report in the New York Times about the antidepressant Prozac and its cousins, including Paxil and Zoloft, being linked to suicide and violence in hundreds of patients over the years.

Now, in addition to fearing a violent outburst from one of the over-medicated children in the neighborhood who forgot to take his anti-depressant, I have reason to fear the neighbors’ dogs, cats, birds and other pets.

The headlines that might await us in the near future are truly frightening:

    *
Prozac-Deprived Pooch Escapes Kennel, Wounds Six
    *
Depressed Calico Lashes Out at Letter Carrier
    *
Parrot Refused Meds Before Flying Off Perch

The future looks gloomy indeed, especially when one considers what the likely defense for dog owners will be when their dogs are accused of biting someone: They’ll sue both the pharmaceutical companies who made the drugs and the veterinarians who prescribed them.

		CULTURE BUZZ:
		Even pets publish these days.
Is this taking pet ownership too far? It’s a notch less creepy than dressing your dog up as a sailor and taking out for Fleet Week, but still.

Cat at a nursing home can predict death.
Ever wonder what your pets are doing when you’re not home? They’re probably holding seances and communicating with the unborn.

		CULTURE BUZZ:
It’s an exciting vacation for you and your dog that involves swimming, hiking, arts and crafts.
No, you can’t just drop off your dog the way your parents used to because they were sick of you. The whole point is a bonding experience with your dog, although we would imagine it would be frustrating watching your golden retriever attempt a friendship bracelet.

		CULTURE BUZZ:
Pet store installs a cat washing machine .
Do people think this is a joke? I think it is a great idea. Bloggers appear to be diametrically opposed on the issue, probably depending on whether they like cats or not.
