The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade has been a tradition of Thankgiving for decades. It started out as a way for the employees of Macy's to say thank you to New York. Macy's started using balloons in their parade in 1927 and it has been tradition since. Here's part 1 featuring balloons from 1927 to 1968.

Some of these old Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade pictures are adorable, while others are just straight up weird. The first helium filled balloons debuted in 1927, and were Felix the Cat, the Dragon, an Elephant, and a Toy Soldier. I have no idea when this crocodile showed up at the party, but i'm guessing fashionable late, as crocodiles always are.
Culture Buzz Artist Mina Karimi is organizing a recreation of the “Twist and Shout” scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in time for New York’s famed Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. Participants can choose any character from the original scene to impersonate, finally giving some of us a reason to borrow our mom’s shoulder-padded, triangular business suits.
