Republican Presidential contenders are fond of accusing President Obama of going around the world and apologizing for America. But in his conciliatory trips around the globe, was he just following the advice Newt Gingrich gave in this January 2008 Foreign Policy article? There, Gingrich advised the future President to go on a global listening tour to “Ankara, Amman, Beijing, and Cairo.”

Newt Gingrich prides himself on “grandiose” ideas. Few ideas, however, live up to the grandiosity of his 1986 plan for space exploration. Gingrich suggested that if the United States cut farm subsidies and transferred that money to the space program, farmers could instead be put to work on “orbiting space factories.” Gingrich was speaking at World Science Fiction Convention in Atlanta. In 1984 Gingrich called for sending astronauts to Halley’s Comet.
The Center for Health Transformation released Newt Gingrich’s Freddie Mac contract from 2006 today. The documents show that Freddie Mac paid the Gingrich Group a $25,000 a month retainer.
