MOVIE BUZZ: Netflix is hosting a grueling public movie-watching marathon beginning October 2nd in New York’s Times Square and is expected to last until a new Guinness World Record is achieved (56 movies). It’ll be less of a spectacle than David Blaine freezing himself into a block of ice, but a giant slumber party is kind of more my speed anyways.

TECH BUZZ: The “Netflix for magazines” from Time Inc. is in beta at long last… And it isn’t half bad! There are 240 titles, and for only $5/month, you can get three magazines you wouldn’t normally buy on the newsstand or subscribe to full price (here’s looking at you, Martha Stewart Living/Best Life!) delivered to your doorstep. Until this thing (inevitably) goes out of business, it’s pretty fun to try out.

BUSINESS BUZZ: Xbox 360 owners with subscriptions to Netflix will soon be able to stream movies and TV shows directly to their consoles. And with the addition of the Live Party feature, which allows users to view streamed content with up to eight people who aren’t even in the room, you can now withdraw further into your virtual cocoon.

BUSINESS BUZZ: Netflix has announced that they will be discontinuing the account profile feature effective September 1, 2008. This means that couples and families who share a Netflix account will no longer be able keep separate queues. Many angry customers are up in arms, and encouraging fellow movie lovers to sign a “Save Netflix Profiles!” petition, and call 1-888-638-3549 to complain.
