All of Virgin’s remaining U.S. Megastores will shutdown and liquidate this summer. The sad news is, this isn’t even an issue of the music industry dying or anything like that. The property owners just want to make more money on rent than Virgin would pay. Quite the virginity auction, if you ask me.

A copyright law specialist who has studied how cassette tapes changed music creation despite strong resistance from the music industry, Wallis is testifying that entertainment execs are greatly exaggerating the losses they claim they’ve incurred due to file-sharing websites. Asked by the judge whether he wanted compensation for his testimony yesterday, he quipped that people could send bouquets to his wife. So far, she’s received more than $5,000 worth of flowers.

In a last ditch effort to revive itself, the music industry is introducing an alternative way of delivering music known as SlotMusic. 4 major record labels will be releasing select albums on 1GB Sandisk (SD) cards without Digital Rights Management (DRM). They’ll most likely sell for the same as a CD. Note to Sandisk and record labels, people steal music b/c it’s free not because of their aversion to the Compact Disc.
