Movie Buzz First the New Yorker critic bravely took on Snark. Now he's recalibrated his aesthetic weaponry to champion the charms of mumblecore. Centering on a review of Joe Swanberg's Alexander the Last (which will be showing at SXSW this weekend), Denby writes, “When the material is emotionally raw, and the nonprofessional actors show some strength, mumblecore delivers insights that Hollywood can’t come close to.” Like Twitter, you can now expect to see the word mumblecore everywhere.
Movie Buzz A rom-com/slasher film, set in the woods, is the world’s first mumblecore horror movie. This looks suitably endearing to be unsettling, in the sense that a person with a paper bag over their head is both scary and laughable.
TV Buzz The third season of this web series about the sex lives of young urbanites living in Chicago has been picked up by IFC. There’s sex! And full-frontal nudity! It’s pretty much hipster porn, complete with awkward fumbling and poignant pillow talks. You’ll be aroused and cringing at the same time.
