As Americans celebrate the life of slain activist Harvey Milk and prepare for Gay Pride Month, a rash of anti-gay hate crimes has struck New York City’s LGBT community. There have been 29 anti-gay hate crimes reported in NYC so far this year compared with 14 at this point last year.
This would be the sixth alleged gay hate crime in New York City in just over a month. Update: It now appears there was not one, but two attacks on Monday evening.
After a rash of anti-gay crime in the city and the murder of a gay man earlier this week, New Yorkers gathered in the West Village to make a statement.
Mark Carson, 32, was shot in the head in Greenwich Village Friday night. Police say it was a hate crime.
