Turns out Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman did not play live at the inauguration! Just like Ashlee Simpson, they performed along with a recording of themselves. In their defense, Yo-Yo Ma said: “It was wicked cold.” Nice try, Ma. I seem to recall Ashlee Simpson having some vague wimpy-sounding excuses too.
