Yay, it's all over and no lasting repercussions could possibly arise! Right? RIGHT? Although the remaining 4,000 troops won't come home until the end of the year, Thursday December 15th marks the official “end” of the war.

The transition from military life to college can be one of the more challenging things a young veteran faces. This Xtranormal video eloquently describes the frustrations vets find on a typical college campus. Nailed it!
By designer Kamel Makhloufi. Each pixel represents a casualty. “U.S. soldiers blue, Iraqi troops green, enemies grey, and civilians orange.” (From, via.)
The 391,832 reports ('The Iraq War Logs'), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.
That's 12 volumes, by the way. Good nighttime reading.

The last US combat brigade in Iraq has left the country, seven years after the US-led invasion. The 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, began crossing by land into Kuwait in the early hours of Thursday, a military spokesman said.
The Iraq war is summed up in a simple gif of a high school cafeteria altercation.
In honor of Memorial Day, here's a project that uses Google Earth to map US and Coalition military casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. You can see photos of the men and women who have died in these wars, find their hometowns, and learn where and how they died. The guy who created the map, Sean Askay, has been working on it for four years on his own time.

A fake copy of the New York Times, dated July 2009, declares the war over and trumpets many other liberal dreams. According to Gawker, volunteers are handing the paper out in New York today as part of an elaborate prank set up by the Yes Men.

Abu Qaswarah was actually killed in a raid on October 5th, but since the final debate is tonight, the government thought now would be a good time to release the information.
A look at the cost of the major wars the U.S. has been involved in, displayed in today’s dollar. Even more interesting: Look at the interactive map and check out the cost as percentage of GDP, and Iraq and Afghanistan shrink dramatically.
Politics Buzz An inspiring love story ends in divorce. She nursed her injured Marine to health and married him despite the fact that his face was completely disfigured by the blast from a suicide bomber. Now they are getting divorced. Having a national holiday created to honor your love is probably too much pressure for any marriage to bear.
Culture Buzz When the body of the Private First Class was returned to her parents in Missouri from Iraq, LaVena Johnson’s father called bullsh*t on the Army’s claim that her death was the result of a suicide. Footage clearly indicates that, in reality, Johnson was likely beaten, raped and murdered (in fact, a trail of blood was photographed outside her tent). The Army, however, has refused to provide further information regarding the case, proving that, even in an “army of one,” it’s not hard for a soldier to be easily forgotten if she isn’t a white male (or, better yet, a star football player).
Celebrity Buzz Turns out Logan wasn’t just reporting on the news in Baghdad — the Enquirer and the New York Post have the steamy details of her many loves. Hot, incisive reporter and a two-timer. This gives the Post the chance to make “in-bedded” puns.
New film exposes a fake Iraq in the Mojave Desert where real solders practice killing fake terrorists. That means the movie is a real documentary on a fictional reality — kinda like The Hills but with more killing.
Politics Buzz The Chief Foreign Correspondent for CBS News who has lived in Baghdad since the beginning of the Iraq War criticizes the media’s lack of coverage on the Daily Show. Oh, and by the way, she’s kind of stunning, and has a South African accent. Meet my new girlcrush, everyone!
TV Buzz An HBO miniseries brings us a new view of war. It seems like a no-brainer that this will be great: The book it’s based on is one of the best accounts of the early days of the Iraq War, Evan Wright’s “Generation Kill,” and David “I Made the F*cking Wire” Simon is at the helm. The miniseries starts on July 13.
Movie Buzz Nick Broomfield’s movie about one corner of the Iraq War finally comes to the U.S. The Haditha killings were one of the worst civilian casualty incidents of the war — 24 men, women and children were killed by a group of Marines after a roadside bombing, though all charges against the soldiers involved were dropped after an investigation. The movie looks at what happened from several different angles.
