The word “meme” describes more than image macros, but thanks to the scores of so-called meme generators, many continue to conflate the terms “meme” and “image macro.” This image is not yet a meme in and of itself. It's an image macro that was not intended to lend itself to manipulation nor inspire participation. Instead, it stands as a critique on an overused format within the much broader meaning of the word “meme.” While image macros are memes, memes are not limited only to image macros.
