CULTURE BUZZ: The anti-Columbus Day movement grows steadily every year. Slave trader or bold explorer? Started in Colorado, the anti-Columbus Day movement made headlines last year with a bunch of arrests at the Denver Columbus Day parade. Growing up, I only knew Columbus as the guy who gave me a day off school between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. We’re not pro-Columbus at BuzzFeed, obviously, as we’re working on his big day.

CULTURE BUZZ: Tomorrow is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Founded by two friends on June 6, 1995, the holiday was conceived during a game of racquetball when one friend, after being injured, shouted “Arrrgh!” Because the day fell on the anniversary of D-Day, one of the friends later decided to move it to his ex-wife’s birthday - September 19th. After that, the day took on a life of its own.
