Defamer said it first , and now Entertainment Weekly's getting in on the action, speculating that Joaquin Phoenix's “retirement” from acting and new rap career are an “elaborate Andy Kaufman-style hoax.” Casey Affleck is supposedly documenting the transition in a new film, but the guy is Phoenix's friend and brother-in-law and could just be doing him a solid.

CBS News: Police sources are saying that “a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter ‘B’ in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.” The story broke in the press two days ago and was all over the news, but police said there were inconsistencies with her story. She has since confessed that it was a total lie, and is facing charges.

Using a briefcase loaded with a GPS gadget and the package-carrier DHL, artist Erik Nordenankar has created a continent-spanning drawing of himself. I was wondering how he had so much footage of the inside of shipping facilities and planes (and why those planes would fly such scribbly routes,) but it turns out that the whole thing is an advertising hoax commissioned by DHL. Yay for artvertising I suppose.
