As much as we resist, you know there's eventually going to be a 'Balloon Boy' made-for-TV movie. And as much as you resist, you're going to watch it. Popeater weighs in on their picks for actors to play the family, friends and yes, even the infamous balloon.
Culture Buzz Reports came in from several bloggers covering E3 ( here, here, and here) about group of “Demonstrators” protesting the upcoming release of EA's new game Dante's Inferno. Now GamePro is reporting that the whole thing is probably a hoax . What i enjoy most about the the whole thing is the “protesters'” website. The way it hearkens back to 1999 and Geo-Cities makes lends it both the charm of nostalgia and amateurish authenticity.
Meet the new flavor of the moment from Britain's Got Talent! His name is Eugene the Librarian, and he will win you over with his dorky, offbeat charm. Just like they all do. Maybe they should just rename the show Britain's Got Losers and it would all make a lot more sense.
I really hope this is an elaborate joke. The trailer for the straight-to-DVD/might-be-a-fake film, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, not only stars Debbie Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas, but looks like it was made by an 8-year old using Microsoft Paint.

The disgraced Illinois ex-governor has been offered a contract by minor league baseball team the Joliet JackHammers. And, reportedly, he's interested (surprised?). Publicity stunt or not, we'd love to see whether or not Blago would be willing to slip a baseball hat onto that glimmering pompadour.

Defamer said it first, and now Entertainment Weekly's getting in on the action, speculating that Joaquin Phoenix's “retirement” from acting and new rap career are an “elaborate Andy Kaufman-style hoax.” Casey Affleck is supposedly documenting the transition in a new film, but the guy is Phoenix's friend and brother-in-law and could just be doing him a solid.
Some troublemakers on the Internet took advantage of Wired's vulnerable image viewer software to post some misinformation about Apple's CEO. Brief panic ensues.
Culture Buzz Commenters on 4Chan, eBaum's world and other sites rile up the internet by getting a crude visual reminder of 9/11 to the top of the Google Trends page. So okay, this only affects the infinitesimally small number of people that know/care what Google Trends is — but you may be one of them! But you probably also won't be offended.
Politics Buzz The man who claimed to be behind the “Sarah Palin doesn't know Africa is a continent” news item doesn't actually exist. Updated: MSNBC wrongly traced the story back to Eisenstadt, supposedly a a McCain policy adviser. But he's a made-up character working for a made-up institute.
When this report was broadcast on the BBC in 1957, hundreds of people phoned in asking how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. I have so many fond memories of spaghetti-harvesting time on my Grandpa’s farm…except for that one terrible year when the spaghetti weevil wiped out the whole crop.

CBS News: Police sources are saying that “a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter ‘B’ in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.” The story broke in the press two days ago and was all over the news, but police said there were inconsistencies with her story. She has since confessed that it was a total lie, and is facing charges.
Politics Buzz Obama supporters sign up to get a text from the campaign when he picks a VP. Someone finds a way to spoof texts from the campaign. Hilarity ensues. One poor bastard thought the Obama campaign actually wrote this: “DUDE, IT’S OBAMA HERE, I CHOO CHOO CHOOSE YOU TO BE MY VP, DAWG.”
Using a briefcase loaded with a GPS gadget and the package-carrier DHL, artist Erik Nordenankar has created a continent-spanning drawing of himself. I was wondering how he had so much footage of the inside of shipping facilities and planes (and why those planes would fly such scribbly routes,) but it turns out that the whole thing is an advertising hoax commissioned by DHL. Yay for artvertising I suppose.
Science Buzz No, pig’s bladder powder did not regrow a man’s finger. The Guardian’s Bad Science column debunks the long-circulating story about a man regrowing a finger through the magical use of powdered pig’s bladder: First problem, it was a minor injury, not a missing finger.
Business Buzz Don’t get all excited, there’s nothing to see here. You may have noticed an ad campaign online over the last month or so for a TV show called Scarlet, starring Natassia Malthe. As it turns out, there is no show, only a new line of LCD HDTVs from LG, as disappointed celebrities like Lindsay Lohan found out at last night’s “premiere.” Ha ha! Hoaxes: The new marketing frontier.
