Science Buzz A group of scientists are developing what could be the world’s first zero-emissions fuel-less car. The Magnetic Air Car is unique for two reasons: it uses magnetic technologies in place of pistons, and it’s powered entirely by compressed air technologies (aka it doesn’t need to be supplied with any form of fuel or charged in any way). This could change the transportation industry!
Science Buzz This real-life Flinstones car runs on human energy. Passengers can help “row” it along, and the two drivers steer it by leaning. With help from an electric motor, it can go up to 60 mph. I would LOVE to see some people carpooling to work in this thing.
Culture Buzz Newly formed UK car company based aims to manufacture the most fuel efficient cars in Europe. It gets 80 miles per gallon, has lower carbon emissions than the Prius, and will hold four people. And you thought hatchbacks couldn’t be sexy!
Science Buzz Plug-ins are hybrid cars 2.0: Charge your car overnight to drive on batteries only for a short range, after which the gas/electric motor kicks in. With hydrogen power still a long way from widespread viability, plug-in cars may be the next logical step in lower-emission vehicles. Leonardo DiCaprio probably already has several on order.
